"Letters From Your Future Spouse (Part 2)" - a new series by Awesoms Marriage leader David Skidmore

A few months ago, one of my mentors said, “Where do you want to be in five years?” Amidst other thoughts, I mentioned, “I would like to be married.” Then, I thought, “What am I doing now to prepare myself to be married?” Now, I don’t believe I’ve met her yet. But I had this thought. If my future wife could see my life at the present time, what would she want me to develop in preparation for our marriage. And if she could see the choices I’m making now, what would she say in the future in response to the choices I’m making now. I wrote this “letter from my future spouse” as an inspiration to the kind of life I want to be able to share with her.

 Dear Love,

Thank you. I can’t say thank you enough because I feel blessed by your choices. I know it wasn’t easy for you to trust God when your life seemed to be falling apart a few years ago. I’m not sure if it is easy for anyone to trust God. Intellectually, it makes sense, but even God knows it is hard for us to trust in Him. And that’s what makes this so special. You chose to trust in the Lord with all your heart, instead of leaning on your own understanding. You chose to acknowledge Him in all your ways, and now look, He has made your path straight. In that, He has made our path straight.

Sometimes your friends made jokes about you, and sometimes they even mocked you. It seemed like most people didn’t understand you, but you kept trusting. You kept believing God. You kept hoping in the Lord. You kept waiting on Him. I’m thankful to be with you, because you help me trust our Lord now. You have no idea how much this means to me, so I’ll just finish with a quiet thank you and my deepest love.

 With all my heart.

This weekend, would you take the time to write yourself a letter from your future spouse about the way you chose to trust the Lord from this day forward? You may feel a bit strange doing this, writing to a person you may not have met yet. This will serve as an inspiration to yourself to live the kind of life now you want to share with your spouse then.
