Insights from Dr. Kim: Christmas 2019
There are a lot of things I love about Christmas, and we are less than a week away from the 2019 edition. I like bundling up in the cooler weather. I like the Christmas lights, the store windows, Charlie Brown Christmas again, It’s A Wonderful Life for the upmteenth time, the smiles on kids' faces and the sparkle in their eyes, our Christmas tree(s), the smells of the season, toy trains, Christmas programs at schools and churches, Christmas Eve dinner with my family, Christmas morning and the wonder that it brings, and so much more. I love this season.
The other day I wondered: If everything I just listed - and everything you would list - disappeared and was not a part of Christmas 2019, what would I think? Would Christmas be ruined? Would my emotions go from joy to sadness? To be honest, I struggled a little with that question. What about you? What would your answer be?
That first Christmas the things on our lists were not present. No Christmas trees or decorations. No Charlie Brown or George Bailey. No big Christmas dinner and no presents. Instead there were pigs, cows, sheep, smelly shepherds, and angels. There was just a dad, a mom and a baby there in a cave, with the baby in a trough. The only light came from the heavens. Yet, we know that the shepherds, the angels, the Mom and Dad all celebrated. There was a baby! The Savior was right there in front of them. Jesus: He was more than enough. He was more than enough then and He is more than enough now!
Merry Christmas to each of you and your families as you celebrate His amazing birth!
