Chickasaw Country Getaway

There are three things that I encourage every couple to do. The first is to have a daily time together. The second is to have a weekly date night. The third is to have a getaway for just the two of them. There is no doubt that couples who consistently do these three things have healthier marriages and enjoy each other more.

A few weekends ago Nancy and I went on a getaway to Chickasaw Country in the Sulphur, Oklahoma area. Our time was amazing. The Artesian Hotel is now truly one of our favorite places. Justin and his staff were great and the hotel is amazing. I literally had the best massage I have ever had at the Sole’renity Spa in the Artesian. Couples massages are awesome! We had breakfast at the Bedré Cafe, which is part of the hotel shops. It is like a 1950’s soda shop.

In the hotel, the food at the Springs was excellent. Best crab cakes and crème brûlée that we have ever tasted! During the day we visited the Chickasaw Cultural Center and were blown away at how informative and innovative it was and we loved the Native American food at the Aaimpa’ Cafe. The Chickasaw National Recreation Area was beautiful and a great place to hike.  Bedré Fine Chocolate has become our favorite chocolate over the past couple of years and touring the facility was a highlight for both of us. Gustavo showed us around and we will be featuring Bedré Fine Chocolate in our Awesome Marriage Date Boxes! We ventured out both nights to great local restaurants. Michael and Christina at Fat Bully’s were great hosts and the burgers were amazing. They have a great story and fit the Awesome Marriage Profile! We are always up for good Mexican food and Potrillos was super. Everything was good but the chicken fajita nachos were over the top.

If you can get to Chickasaw Country, the trip is more than worth it, but wherever you are I hope this encourages you to do a weekend getaway. We had a great time, enjoyed time with each other, and came back rested and ready to go!
